Board of Charles County Commissioners
The Board of Charles County Commissioners will meet this Tuesday at 9 am. There, they will discuss budget amendments, including an increase in the FY2024 budget for vetting adoptable animals and food costs. They will also seek approval for a VanGO Facility Construction Grant Application and amendments to the FY2025 Annual Transportation Priority Letter.
During the meeting, the Board will receive updates from the 2024 Maryland General Assembly Session, including briefings on proposed zoning map amendments and amendments to the Charles County Building Code. The Montgomery County Board of Education will hold a business meeting this Thursday. The meeting will discuss the Education of English Language Learners, with tentative actions proposed regarding Policy IOD. Technical amendments will be discussed regarding MCPS Procurement Practices and Bid Awards under Policy DJA. Additionally, there will be discussions on mid-year evidence of learning and progress toward graduation, along with updates on safety and security measures in schools

Prince George's County
Prince George's County Council
The Prince George's County Council will meet tomorrow at 11 am. This week, under the consent agenda, the Council will approve multiyear contracts as part of CR-026-2024, streamlining the process for routine county operations. Notably, the council will discuss several bills, including CB-007-2024 and CB-010-2024, which aim to revise the elderly property tax credit and enhance mental health and firearm safety, respectively. CB-007-2024 will propose changes to the property tax credit system to benefit elderly residents, making it independent of other tax credits. CB-010-2024 will focus on requiring health and safety literature at firearm and ammunition sale points, enhancing public safety. CLPA will delve deep into this bills later in the week.
The council will also deliberate on CB-008-2024, an emergency act to extend the Temporary Rent Stabilization Act, addressing the housing affordability crisis and preventing homelessness. Additionally, CB-013-2024 will be discussed to regulate cannabis use and sales, aligning with state law. Other resolutions of interest that will be considered include CR-005-2024 supporting the creation of a commission on reparations. The meeting will also introduce resolutions like CR-027-2024, designating April as “Second Chance Month” to support the reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals.
