District of Columbia



DC Council


The DC Council will hold a legislative meeting tomorrow at noon. During the meeting, there will be a final reading and vote on a series of proposed bills covering various topics. These include amendments related to harmonious living, road restoration, pesticide operations, building energy performance standards, and housing fairness. Additionally, bills addressing insurance regulations, utility work wages, child and family services, youth mentorship, pet ownership in housing, and probate procedures will be up for a final vote. The meeting will also consider legislation on public safety, such as fraudulent vehicle tags, amplified sound mitigation, and child marriage prohibition.


Beyond the final readings and votes, the meeting will include new business concerning the "Entertainment Establishment Employee Safety Emergency Amendment Act of 2024". A motion to reconsider this bill and proposed amendments will be brought before the Council.


The next legislative meeting will not occur until 2025.


DC State Board of Education

The DC State Board of Education will not have a public meeting. They wil next meet January 15, 2025 at 5:30


Maryland




Maryland General Assembly


The Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate have adjourned for the year but will be back in session in January 2025.



Charles County




Board of Charles County Commissioners


Montgomery County


Montgomery County Council

The Montgomery County Council is in recess this week. While the next legislative meeting is tentatively scheduled for January 2025, a specific date has not yet been officially announced.


Montgomery County Board of Education

The Montgomery County Board of Education is in recess this week. They will next meet on January 9, 2025.


Prince George's County Council

The Prince George's County Council is in recess this week. While the next legislative meeting is tentatively scheduled for January 2025, a specific date has not yet been officially announced.

ThPrince George's County Board of Education is in recess this week. They will next meet on January 16, 2025, at 7 pm.

 

Virginia



Virginia General Assembly


The Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate have adjourned for the 2024 session. They will be back in session in January 2025.


Alexandria City



Alexandria City Council

The Alexandria City Council is in recess this week. They will next meet on January 14, 2025, at 7 pm.


Alexandria City Board of Education

The Alexandria City Board of Education will convene for a meeting this Thursday at 6 pm. The meeting will begin with recognizing outgoing board members, followed by reports from the Superintendent, student representatives, and advisory committees. The Board will then address the consent calendar, which includes approval of financial reports for FY 2024 and FY 2025, personnel actions, academic calendars for 2025-2028, a community donation from Amazon, policy revisions, advisory committee appointments, and the minutes from various previous meetings.


Following the consent calendar, the Board will move on to action items, including a PreK-8 analysis, adoption of the FY2026-2035 Capital Improvement Plan budget, consideration of a petition to rename the Minnie Howard Athletic Field Complex, and revisions to the cell phone policy. Finally, the meeting will conclude with monitoring items such as updates from the Office of English Learner Services and the LINK Club Out-of-School Time program.


Arlington County




Arlington County Board

The Arlington County Board will not have a public meeting this week.



Arlington County School Board

The Arlington County School Board is in recess this week. They will next meet on January 16, 2025, at 7 pm.


Fairfax County




Fairfax County Board of Supervisors

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is in recess this week. They will next meet on January 14, 2025, at 7 pm.


Fairfax County School Board

The Fairfax County School Board will meet this Thursday at 7 pm for their regular meeting. The meeting will include presentations on academic matters, a strategic plan update, and remarks from the Superintendent. The Board will also conduct a performance review of Human Resources, focusing on corrective actions related to high school athletics and other division programs. Action items include the FY 2025 Midyear Budget Review and a discussion on revisions to Policy 2418, which addresses secondary grades assessment and reporting.


The Consent Agenda will address several items, including a contract award for the Brookfield Elementary School Renovation Project, sole source contract amendments for student assessment testing, and an intergovernmental contract with the University of Wisconsin for English Language Proficiency Assessments. New business items include amendments to contracts for construction testing and inspection services at Mosaic Elementary School and Falls Church High School. The Board will also receive a monitoring report on Facilities and Transportation and information on the ratification of tentative collective bargaining agreements with the Fairfax Education Unions.
