We are close to the end of the year, and as such, legislative bodies around the area are making the push to get legislation across the finish line. Here is a list of the most important meetings that residents should pay attention to around the DMV.

The DC Council is having a Legislative Meeting this week and will discuss a number of important bills. The consent agenda will have final votes on bills such as:

  • B24-0649 - Elimination of Discrimination Against Women Amendment Act of 2022Automatic Voter Registration Expansion Amendment Act of 2022

They will also have first readings on:

  • B24-0200 - Internet Equity Amendment Act of 2021

  • B24-1034 - Child Wealth Building Amendment Act of 2022

Since these bills appear on the consent agenda, they will most likely pass. The bills scheduled for first reading will be referred to various DC Council committees. However, bills scheduled on the non-consent agenda may be more contentious. Bills up for final reading and vote are:

  • B24-0301 - Business and Entrepreneurship Support to Thrive Amendment Act of 2021

  • B24-0665 - Access to Advanced Placement Exams Amendment Act of 2022

In Maryland, there is not too much legislative activity occurring, however, in Montgomery County, during a work session this week, will review and take positions on local and bi-county bills sponsored by a member of the Montgomery County Delegation or Chair of the Montgomery County Government. In the Prince Geroge's County Council, they will hear CB-006-2023, Landlord Reporting of Tenant’s Rental Payments to Major Credit Bureaus, which will create a pilot program requiring landlords with dwelling units to give their tenants the option of having their rental payments reported to at least one of the three major credit bureaus.

In Virginia, the Alexandria City Council will have a Special Meeting. There is also a meeting this week in the Alexandria School Board, but unfortunately, neither meetings have its agendas posted online. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will meet this week where they will adopt their legislative program for the 2023 Session of the Virginia General Assembly and approval their federal legislative strategy and principles for the 118th Congress.
