The DC State Board of Education has recessed and will not have a public meeting this week.

Maryland General Assembly:

The Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate have adjourned for the year and will be back in session in January 2025.

Charles County




Board of Charles County Commissioners

The Board of Charles County Commissioners will have a public meeting today at 9:00 a.m. At the meeting, they will approve various budget changes. These changes include more funds for infrastructure management, EMS contracts, administrative salaries, drug forfeiture training, self-service kiosks, diversity and inclusion assessments, property acquisition costs, and the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy. Key legislation discussed includes:


  1. FY2024 Budget Amendment Increase #480 - Contract Services Overrun for Inspections.

  2. FY2024 Budget Amendment Increase #762 - Infrastructure Management Pending Invoices.

  3. FY2024 Budget Amendment Increase #851 - EMS Budget Contracts.

  4. FY2025 Budget Transfer Request #46 - Increase Administrative Salaries.

  5. FY2025 Budget Amendment Increase #47 - CCSO Drug Forfeiture Training Budget.

  6. FY2025 Budget Amendment Increase #162 - Circuit Court Self-Service Kiosks.

  7. FY2025 Budget Amendment Increase #186- Department of Human Resources DEI Assessment.

  8. FY2025 Budget Transfer Request #230 - Cover Operating Costs Associated with Property Acquisition.

  9. FY2025 Budget Amendment Increase #469 - CCSO Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy.


Additionally, the session will cover the submission of the proposed Charles County Charter 2024, briefings on the fiscal impact of different forms of government, and updates on school allocation cycles, bonding processes, and annual reports from various county commissions.

Montgomery County


Montgomery County Council

The Montgomery County Council will hold a public meeting today at 9:15 a.m. Key presentations include a proclamation by Councilmember Albornoz recognizing the Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The general business session will include announcements followed by a District Council Session to discuss the Great Seneca Master Plan.


Legislation to be discussed includes:

  1. Resolution to approve the Office of Legislative Oversight (OLO) FY25 Work Program - Introduction, with action scheduled for 7/30/24.

  2. Special Appropriation #25-6 to the FY25 Operating Budget - Introduction of a $1,000,000 federal grant for a 5G Broadband Job Training Bootcamp, and additional funding for Montgomery College, WorkSource Montgomery, and the Wireless Industry Association.

  3. Amendment to FY25 Operating Budget- Introduction and action on non-competitive contract awards to The Primary Care Coalition and Interfaith Works.

  4. Resolution to approve the FY25 Schedule of Revenue Estimates and Appropriations - Action item.

  5. Authorization of Optional Method for Condemnation of Land Advanced Taking - MD 355 Clarksburg Shared Use Path - Action item.

  6. Resolution to confirm appointments to the Library Board- Action item.

  7. Resolution to adopt a Proposed Amendment to County Charter - Several amendments related to budget approval, executive appointments, and term limits for the County Executive.

  8. Resolution to approve Executive Regulation 2-24, Rent Stabilization - Action item.


The meeting will recess at noon and resume at 1:30 p.m. with additional work sessions and actions on various proposed amendments to the County Charter.

The Montgomery County Board of Education has recessed and will not have a public meeting this month.

Alexandria City Council:

The Alexandria City Council is not in session for the month of July.

The Alexandria City Board of Education will not have a full committee meeting for the month of July.

Arlington County




Arlington County Board

The Arlington County Board met yesterday at 5:30 pm. The meeting covered a wide range of legislation, including several site plan amendments and use permit reviews. Among the notable items, the board will discuss SPLA23-00046, a site plan amendment for The Crossing at Clarendon to modify the parking ratio, and SPLA24-00008, an amendment allowing pedestrian access closure during construction for the RCA site plan. Additionally, the board will review several use permits for child care centers, including UPER24-00014 for the Armed Services YMCA Child Development Center, accommodating up to 268 children.


Highlighted Legislation:

  1. SPLA23-00046 (Site Plan Amendment for The Crossing at Clarendon) - Modify the parking ratio by removing two spaces. Recommended for deferral to October 2024.

  2. SPLA24-00008 (Site Plan Amendment for RCA site)- Allows closure of pedestrian access during construction. Recommended for approval with conditions.

  3. UPER24-00014 (Use Permit for Armed Services YMCA Child Development Center) - Permit a childcare center for up to 268 children. Recommended for approval with a one-year review.


Additionally, the County Board will meet today at 6:30 pm and will review consent items, including the adoption of the Pentagon City Planning Study elements and amendments to the General Land Use Plan, Master Transportation Plan, and Zoning Ordinance. Legislation to be discussed includes the Pentagon City Sector Plan, GP-353-22-1, and ZOA-2022-01.


Key legislation :

  1. Pentagon City Sector Plan: A comprehensive plan to guide development in the Pentagon City area.

  2. GP-353-22-1: Amendments to the General Land Use Plan (GLUP) Map and Booklet.

  3. MTP Amendments: Changes to the Master Transportation Plan Map.

  4. ZOA-2022-01: Amendments to the Zoning Ordinance for multi-family and mixed-use districts.


Additionally, the Board will consider SPLA22-00054, an amendment to the Pentagon Centre Phased Development Site Plan to revise phasing and increase density. Public hearings will be advertised for amendments to zoning for recovery residences. The regular hearing items, starting no earlier than 6:45 PM, include the review of a commercial parking lot use permit (UPER22-00021) and the adoption of the FY 2025-2034 Capital Improvement Plan. Finally, resolutions and questions for the 2024 Bond Referenda will be discussed.

The Arlington County School Board is not in session for the month of July.
