As we enter the legislative recess, many of the local legislative bodies in the DC metropolitan area are taking a break from their regular sessions. This week, there will be no meetings for the DC Council, the DC State Board of Education, the Maryland General Assembly (including both the House of Delegates and the Senate), and the Charles County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education. Similarly, the Montgomery County Council and Board of Education, as well as the Alexandria City Council and Board of Education, will not be holding any meetings during this period.
However, there are some exceptions, as both the Prince George's County Board of Education and the Arlington County School Board have scheduled virtual meetings for this week.
Prince George's County Board of Education Meeting
On August 2nd at 5:00 pm, the Prince George's County Board of Education will be meeting virtually. During this session, they will delve into the benefits of implementing an accountability plan to establish clear roles between the Board of Education and the Superintendent. This plan is aimed at fostering collaboration and improving student outcomes in the county's educational system. Additionally, the board will discuss a draft template for a comprehensive board evaluation. This initiative aims to enable continuous improvement in governance practices and lay a strong foundation for student success and community growth.
Arlington County School Board Meeting
On August 3 at 7:00 pm, the Arlington County School Board will convene to discuss important matters concerning the county's education system. One of the key topics on the agenda will be the appointment of the School Board Advisory Committee members. This step aims to foster community engagement and collaboration, ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders are heard and considered. Furthermore, the board will also discuss the School Emergency Management Plan. The primary goal of this plan is to prioritize the safety and well-being of students and staff, providing a comprehensive approach to emergency preparedness within the school district.
