CLPA List of Upcoming DC Area Policy Meetings (October 10-October 13)

In the week ahead, residents in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area can anticipate a busy schedule of meetings and hearings by local government bodies.


Let's kick things off in the heart of it all, the District of Columbia.


On Thursday at 10 am, the DC Council is hosting a Housing Public Hearing. The highlight of this hearing is the discussion on B25-0242, also known as the "Reverse Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Program Amendment Act of 2023." This act aims to address an issue concerning reverse mortgages that might affect homeowners in the area. DC State Board of Education will not public meeting this week but should have one in the next few week.


Now, let's shift our focus to neighboring Maryland.


The Board of Charles County Commissioners won't be meeting this week, but the Charles County Board of Education will convene at 1:00 pm today. They'll discuss various matters, including updates from the Education Association of Charles County and the FY 24 Tuition Rates for non-resident students, with a crucial vote on the SY2024-2025 Calendar.


Over in Montgomery County, the Council met and held a public hearing on important bills related to firearm safety and tenant displacement. The Montgomery County Board of Education will not have a public meeting this week but will hold a closed session to discuss a number issues including their annual legislative priorities and student data regarding math proficiency


In Prince George's County, the County Council held a meeting today at 10:00 AM, where they discussed various bills and resolutions, including topics like Black Maternal Health, Cannabis Uses, and more. The County Board of Education has a work session this Thursday at 5:00 pm, focusing on the results of the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP).


Finally, let's cross the Potomac River into Virginia. The Alexandria City Council has a public meeting today at 6:00 pm. They'll discuss issues like panhandling rules and changes to election district boundaries and polling places. In Arlington County, the Board won't have a public meeting this week, but the School Board will convene to discuss revisions to School Board Policies. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will meet today at 9:00 am, while the Fairfax County School Board will have a full Board meeting at 7:30 pm.

There will a meeting of the Charles County Board of Education today at 1:00 pm at the meeting among other items there will be an update from Education Association of Charles County (EACC), report on the FY 24 Tuition Rates for admitted students who are not residents of Charles County, and there will be a vote on the SY2024-2025 Calendar.

The Montgomery County Council met today at 9:00 am and will have public hearing on:

  • Expedited Bill 38-23, Tenant Displacement - Right Of First Refusal To Buy Rental Housing - Amendments

Alexandria City



Alexandria City Council:

The Alexandria City Council will have a public meeting today at 6:00 pm. On the agenda includes a proposal to cancel rules against panhandling and set a date for a hearing and adoption on October 14, 2023.


The City Council will also consider a proposed ordinance to change election district boundaries and polling places to City Council. Their primary concerns include ensuring compliance with state and local district boundaries, suitable voting facilities, accessibility, and manageable precinct sizes. Currently, three precincts west of I-395 have around 5,000 registered voters each, necessitating new precincts to accommodate growth and reduce voter lines for the 2024 General Election. The Code of Virginia mandates precincts not exceed 5,000 registered voters and requires redrawing boundaries if over 4,000 voters turn out for a Presidential Election, a situation anticipated in the 2024 election. If adopted there will be a second reading, public hearing and final passage this Saturday.


Alexandria City Board of Education

The Alexandria City School Board will not have a public meeting this week.

Arlington County Board

The Arlington County Board will not have a public meeting this week.


Arlington County School Board

The Arlington County School Board will have a meeting this Thursday at 7 pm where they will discuss among other topics revisions to School Board Policies I-11.1 Family and Community Engagement and J-2.1 Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hold a full committee meeting today at 9:00 am.

The Fairfax County School Board will hold a full Board meeting at 7:30 pm today
