District of Columbia
DC Council
The DC Council will not have a Legislative Meeting this week. However, they will have a Committee of the Whole Public Hearing. At that hearing, they will discuss Bill 25-741, “Vocational Education for a New Generation Act of 2024,” which would establish a locally funded Workforce Ready Program in Washington, D.C., to improve and expand career and technical education opportunities for students and adults.
DC State Board of Education
The DC State Board of Education will not have a public meeting this month.
Maryland
Maryland General Assembly
The Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate have adjourned for the year but will be back in session in January 2025.
Charles County
Board of Charles County Commissioners
The Charles County Board of County Commissioners will hold a legislative session tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. The meeting will focus on introducing and scheduling public hearings for two proposed bills: Bill 2024-(15), which amends the Water and Sewer Ordinance to include supplemental service area policies, and Bill 2024-(16), a zoning text amendment concerning driveways and parking for agritourism projects. The meeting will also include briefings on various topics, including grant applications, healthcare coverage, and retirement plans.
Montgomery County
Montgomery County Council
The Montgomery County Council will hold a council session at 9:00 am tomorrow. They will receive a semi-annual update from the Board of Health, followed by a worksession on the 2024-2028 Growth and Infrastructure Policy. During the consent calendar, the Council will take action on several resolutions, including the approval of categorical transfers of $20,600,000 for the FY24 Montgomery County Public Schools Operating Budget.
In the afternoon, a public hearing will occur at 1:30 p.m. on a resolution to approve an amendment to the FY25-30 Capital Improvements Program and a supplemental appropriation of $4,300,000 to upgrade the Public Safety Communications Center’s electrical distribution and HVAC systems Another public hearing and action will address an amendment to the FY25-30 Capital Improvements Program related to cost-sharing for the Department of Recreation.
Montgomery County Board of Education
The Montgomery County Board of Education will hold a business meeting tomorrow, starting with a closed session at 1:00 p.m., followed by the public session at 3:30 p.m. Legislative items include the approval of the utilization of funds for the Fiscal Year 2025 Provision for Future Supported Projects at 4:35 p.m. Additionally, there will be discussions on mathematics performance strategies for students with disabilities, emergent multilingual learners, and students in the Free and Reduced-Priced Meals Systems, along with a review of the draft 2025–2026 school year calendar and a report on the new strategic plan process. Public hearings will take place starting at 3:35 p.m. with multiple individuals scheduled to speak. The meeting will conclude with a future closed session resolution at 7:10 p.m
Prince George's County
Prince George's County Council
The Prince George's County Council will meet tomorrow at 10:00 am. Important legislative items include CB-076-2024, which aims to improve transparency in law enforcement accountability by clarifying its applicability to both on-duty and off-duty conduct, and CB-085-2024, which revises requirements for Universal Design in housing, including exemptions and penalties for non-compliance. Public hearings will be held regarding appointments to the Commission for Veterans and the Solid Waste Advisory Commission. Additionally, CB-107-2024, concerning emergency evacuation plans for senior housing, will be introduced for its second reading.
Prince George's County Board of Education
The Prince George's County Board of Education will hold its next business meeting on Thursday at 5:30 pm. Important items on the agenda include first considerations for several policies, such as Policy 4113, which encourages community involvement in the principal selection process, and the potential rescission of policies related to board member roles and meeting procedures. The board will also discuss final considerations for Board Policy 0116 on Wellness, Nutrition, and Physical Activity, as well as Policy 2801 on Safe and Supportive Schools.
Virginia
Virginia General Assembly
The Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate have adjourned for the 2024 session. They will be back in session in January 2025.
Alexandria City
Alexandria City Council
The Alexandria City Council will meet tomorrow at 7:00 pm. Key agenda items to focus on this week include consideration of a grant application to the Supreme Court of Virginia to support the Alexandria Recovery Court and a grant application to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration for the same program. The council will also vote on the approval of the Phase 3 Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Action Plan to ensure compliance with water quality standards (Bill 25-2460). They will also discuss a resolution supporting a Valley Drive Storm Drain Improvements grant application under the Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund Program (Bill 25-2513).
Alexandria City Board of Education
The Alexandria City Board of Education will hold a public meeting on Thursday at 6:00 pm. Legislative items include the adoption of the 2025 ACPS Legislative Positions, which outline the district’s policy priorities for the upcoming year. The meeting will also feature updates on redistricting efforts and the impact of the PreK-8 model analysis on future school boundaries.
Arlington County
Arlington County Board
The Arlington County Board will hold a recessed meeting tomorrow at 3:00 pm. During the meeting, an ordinance will be considered allowing the encroachment of an underground transformer vault and surface vault lids into a public sidewalk and utility easement at 1031 N. Vermont St., Arlington, VA. The County Manager recommends enacting this ordinance with conditions.

The Arlington County School Board will not a full school board public meeting this week
Fairfax County
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will meet tomorrow at 9:30 am. The meeting will include agenda items such as approving a "Watch for Children" sign in the Springfield District and permitting public hearings for land acquisitions necessary for road and sewer improvements. A major agenda item will be the consideration of a proposal to amend Fairfax County Code Chapter 30, which would update standards for private schools and childcare facilities.
Public hearings for this week's meeting will begin at 3:30 pm and will cover topics such as the creation and enlargement of various sanitary districts for refuse and recycling services and amendments to parking regulations, including creating the Chantilly Park Community Parking District in the Sully District. There will also be a public comment period on a zoning ordinance amendment to repeal Chapter 112.1 and enact Chapter 112.2.
Fairfax County School Board
The Fairfax County School Board will hold a public session this Thursday at 7:00 pm. The meeting will feature a report and vote on the Strategic Plan Goal 1: Strong Start (Pre-K-12), which evaluates the school division’s progress toward its 2030 educational goals. At the meeting, they will also certify the Fairfax County Federation of Principals, Supervisors, and Administrators (FCFPSA) as the exclusive bargaining agent for administrators and supervisors following a successful election. The Board will also have public hearings on contract awards for cooling unit replacements, a renovation project at Bren Mar Park Elementary School, and a discussion on school bond issuance.
