Maryland General Assembly:
The Maryland House of Delegates and the Maryland Senate have adjourned for the year but will be back in session in January 2025.
Charles County
Board of Charles County Commissioners
The Board of Charles County Commissioners will convene tomorrow at 9:00 am. The Board will discuss approving an extra public hearing date for Proposed Bill 2024-(06), a Zoning Text Amendment (ZTA) related to the Mixed Use (MX) Zone. The board will also discuss introducing and scheduling a public hearing for Proposed Bill 2024-(14), which focuses on revisions to the Homeowners Tax Credit.
Tomorrow's meeting will also include a briefing on the FY2025 Municipal Storm Water Financial Assurance Plan (MS4 FAP) and the potential scheduling of a public hearing for this financial plan. There will also be a briefing on the Charles County Engagement Platform to explore tools for enhancing community communication. The session will conclude with departmental highlights and Charles County Water Supply Program updates.
Montgomery County
Montgomery County Council
The Montgomery County Council will have a Council Session tomorrow at 9:30 am. Following general business items like agenda changes and approval of previous minutes, the Council will conduct interviews for positions on the Board of Appeals.
Public hearings will focus on several bills, including Bill 18-24, which proposes amendments to housing policy standards; Bill 19-24, on revised taxicab license requirements; and Bill 20-24, concerning public campaign financing amendments. Additionally, the Council will hold public hearings and vote on supplemental appropriations for energy and environmental projects, including a $2,000,000 appropriation from a Juul settlement aimed at vape detection and prevention in Montgomery County Public Schools.
Montgomery County Board of Education
On Thursday at noon, the Montgomery County Board of Education will hold a business meeting. Key topics for the day will include discussions around public procurement and various contracts, including school buses and fresh produce supply contracts. They will also discuss the contract approval for school buses, which may impact transportation services within the county.
Public hearings will begin at 12:20 p.m., followed by discussions on literacy performance strategies for emergent multilingual learners and students with disabilities. The Board will also review the "Blueprint" and discuss amendments to Policy ACF, which addresses sexual misconduct and harassment of students.
Prince George's County
Prince George's County Council
The Prince George's County Council will meet tomorrow at 10:00 am. The session will feature several key legislative items, including the second reading of multiple bills, such as CB-066-2024, which mandates the creation of an online, public database for short-term rentals, and CB-068-2024, concerning the adoption of the 2023 edition of the Prince George’s County Code. Additionally, bills related to zoning and subdivision regulations, such as CB-069-2024 and CB-070-2024, will be introduced.
Public hearings are scheduled to address housing and community development legislation, including resolutions CR-072-2024 and CR-074-2024, which propose reallocating funds to support affordable housing projects and initiatives under the Community Development Block Grant Program. These hearings are part of the County Council’s ongoing efforts to manage fiscal year 2025 development projects and programs to improve housing accessibility and community services across Prince George's County.

Virginia General Assembly:
The Virginia House of Delegates and the Virginia Senate have adjourned for the 2024 session. They will be back in session in January 2025.
Alexandria City
Alexandria City Council:
The Alexandria City Council will meet tomorrow at 7:00 pm. The council will address several legislative matters, such as the first reading of an ordinance related to the city's Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) Financing Program and a resolution concerning the conversion of King Street's access road from two-way to one-way traffic. Public hearings on contested matters, such as roadway safety design changes on Eisenhower Avenue, are set for later dates, with one scheduled for October 19, 2024.
Alexandria City Board of Education
The Alexandria City Board of Education will meet on Thursday at 6:00 pm. The Board will focus on adopting the budget priorities for FY 2026, including the FY 2026-2035 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget, which outlines strategic funding priorities based on student data and the ACPS Strategic Plan. These budget decisions will be critical in shaping the school division’s resource allocation for the upcoming years.
The Board will also vote on the modernization plans for George Mason Elementary School, reviewing three proposed design concepts. The concept selection will allow the project to move into the next phase, aligning with ACPS' long-term educational and facilities planning. Fairfax County Board of Supervisors
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will convene tomorrow at 9:30 am. The agenda includes the 250th Commission Semi-Annual Report and other items to be presented by the County Executive and Board members. Legislative actions to be discussed include approving traffic calming measures for Radford Avenue in the Mount Vernon District and authorizing project agreements with the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority for Fairfax County Parkway projects in the Braddock and Springfield districts.
The meeting will also feature several public hearings, starting at 4:00 pm. Key issues to be discussed include land rights acquisition for the Tysons East Pump Station construction, the abandonment of portions of Cannonball Road, and amendments to the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance regarding mature trees and coastal resilience. Additionally, a hearing will be held regarding the conveyance of development easements for the Residences at Government Center II Development in the Braddock District. These discussions will likely influence future county policies and projects in Fairfax County.
